OBITUARY
Mrs. Chris Logan
It is again our sed duty to chronicle the passing away of one of the respected and universally loved pioneers of the community. Monday morning the sad news came that Mrs. Christian Logan had passed suddenly away.
Mrs. Logan was born near Lisbon, Ill., August 10th, 1853, and was the oldest child of Mr. and Mrs. Jonas Duea, who came to Iowa in 1856. Mrs. Logan has lived to see the Iowa prairies change from a wilderness into the best developed country. She has done her full share in this great transformation.
On June 26, 1872, she was united in marriage to J. H. Boyd (best known as Henry Mathre in an early day). To this union 4 children were born: O. S. Boyd of Roland; Mrs. J. M. Mason of Montevideo, Minn.; Mrs. O. P. Teig of Roland, and Rachel, who died when but a few months old. On October 9, 1884, her husband, J. H. Boyd, passed away.
She remained a widow until March 15, 1888, when she was united in holy matrimony with Christian Logan. This union was blessed with 5 children: Hanna Guvine (Mrs. Ed. Christian, Roland); Martha Eveline (Mrs. Carl Tesdal, Radcliffe); Clara Jeanette (Mrs. Knut Mehus, Roland), Palmer Elisa Logan and Noah Jonathan Logan.
Besides raising her own family she was a good mother to Mr. Logan's children by former marriage: Henry G., Knut, Grethe Maria (now Mrs. Sparboe), Heline Berdine (now Mrs. Jonas Christian), Anna Karoline (now Mrs. P. S. Larson), and Ella Benjamin, who died at the age of five years, and was nursed and taken care of tenderly by his step-mother as if he had been her own child.
Besides fiving a mother's care to all the above mentioned she adopted and raised as her own Mary Caroline Thoreson, a niece of Mr. Logan, who became an orphan when she was 7 years old. Miss Ruby Duea, a niece of Mrs. Logan, was raised and cred for from the time she was an infant. Mrs. Logan was always ready and willing to do favors for others wherever she could and it was done in a cheerful and whole-souled way. There are many more than usual who can say in her case, "Blessed be her memory." Personally in behalf of my departed ones I wish to say "Blessed be her memory. We have no right to grieve for her departure. We will all miss her who knew her best, but we must not grieve. She has done her work well and was ready. God grant that her example may lead us to better thoughts and deeds."
