OBITUARY
Thomas Johnson was born in Saetvedt, Norway, March 5, 1850, and died Thursday, June 7, 1923, at the age of 73 years and three months.
The deceased came to America in 1868, locating at that time in Lee county, Illinois. He was married to Larsine Svaasand in 1876 and moved to Iowa in 1877, where he purchased a farm three miles southeast of Stanhope. He was for several years Justice of the Peace in Clear Lake township.
In 1889 he came to Story City where he was at times interested in buying live stock, owned a harness shop and served as assessor and Justice of the Peace until some time after having suffered a stroke of paralysis on July 15, 1915. By reason of this stroke he was inactive for period of almost eight years and was confined to his bed the last year and a half, gradually becoming more feeble until on Saturday, June 2nd, he suffered a second stroke and passed away on the following Thursday.
The deceased leaves his wife, three sons, Dr. J. Thomas Johnson, Dr. William C. Johnson and Lawrence Johnson, all of Fellows, Calif., and daughter, Mrs. A. S. Christensen of Clemons and grandchildren, Mrs. Barney Arney of Collins, Mrs. Lyle Perry of Clemons, Arnold, Harold and Hubert Christensen of Clemons to mourn their loss.
Mr. Johnson always took a lively interest in the affairs of the state and community in which he lived and his judgment was held in high esteem by those who knew him in his later years when he was unable to get around and the news of his passing caused much regret among those who for so long had known him and esteemed him for his many sterling qualities.
