Services Saturday For S. B. Nagel
Severin Berent Nagel, lifelong resident of Kelley, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 10 at the Iowa Lutheran hospital in Des Moines. Mr. Nagel had been in poor health since suffering a heart attack in May, 1848. On Tuesday of last week he submitted to an operation at the Lutheran hospital and passed away the next afternoon (Wednesday) from another heart attack.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 1:30 from the home and 2 o'clock from the Bethany Lutheran church with Rev. Peder Buland of Cambridge in charge. At the home, Rev. Buland had scripture reading and prayer. He also sang "I Know of a Sleep in Jesus."
At the church, Lowell Accola sang a solo, "What a Freind We Have in Jesus." Rev. Buland led the audience in scripture reading and prayer. HIs sermon message was "God is Love." Pastor Buland took his text from Job 16:22. In closing, Mr. Accola and George Person sang "Jesus Lover of My Soul."
There were many beautiful floral tributes and gifts to missions and other worthy causes in memory of the deceased.
Pallbearers were Randall Thompson, Hans Larson, Lewis Erickson, Severt Erickson, Jeffery Richardson and Tom Reinertson.
Obituary.
Severin Berent Nagel was born near Kelley on Oct. 19, 1881 and passed away Aug. 10, 1949 at the age of 68 years, 9 months and 22 days.
On Apr. 1 1904 he was united in marriage to Lettie Olson To this union was born eight children, three having preceded him in death.
As a child he was baptized in the Palestine church. He was confirmed in the Bethlehem church, later joining the Bethany church at Kelley. Mr. Nagel was an active member as long as health permitted.
Besides his wife he is survived by his children: Mrs. Carl Hillebo of Huxley, Mrs. Harry Parker of Kelley, Burton Nagel of Lake City, Mrs. Richard Golay and Orville Nagel, both of Woodward. Also 16 grandchildren survive.
