Last Rites Held for Joseph M. Lande, 47
Last rites for Joseph M. Lande, who passed away Monday, July 1, were held Friday afternoon. The Riis Funeral Home at Slater was in charge of the arrangements.
A short prayer service was held in the home of the deceased, east of Alleman, at 1:30 o'clock.
Services were held at the Fjeldberg Lutheran Church in Huxley at 2:00. They were in charge of the Rev. Harold Rye, who preached the sermon.
A male quartette composed of Val Racek, Pastor Rye, Ben Anfinson and Merlin Severtson sang two selections, "The Old Rugged Cross" and "In the Garden." Mrs. Jacob Lee was the organist.
The flowers were arranged by Mrs. Avernol Fjelland, Mrs. Clifford Birkestrand and Mrs. LeRoy Anderson. A large number of gifts of money for worthy causes were given in Joseph's memory by relatives and friends.
Pallbearers were Dick Tomlinson, Dwight Law, Ralph Thompson, Arnold Ness, Fred Sydnes and Noble Twedt.
Burial was in the Fjeldberg Cemetery.
Obituary
Joseph Miller Lande, son of Albert G. and Carrie Lande, was born Nov. 23, 1909, on a farm south of Huxley, and passed away at the Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines, on Monday, July 1, after a brief illness, at the age 47 years, 7 months and 8 days.
He was baptized and confirmed in the Fjeldberg Lutheran Church of which he was an active member, serving as trustee and on the building board for the new church.
He graduated from Huxley High School in 1929 and attended Iowa State College.
He became engaged in farming with his brother, Gerhard, on a farm east of Alleman, in 1936.
On Feb. 8, 1941, he was united in marriage to Clara Barbara Juon of near Slater. To this union was born three children--Barbara Jo, Bonnie Lou and Harold.
Joseph was preceded in death by his father in 1948.
Surviving, besides his wife and three children, are his mother, Mrs. Carrie Lande; three brothers, Gerhard, George and Alfred, two sisters, Mrs. Christine Sheldahl and Mrs. Bertha Hauge, all of Huxley; many nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends, all of whom cherish his memory.
