Shawn Peterson, 40, of Sullivan, Ill., and formerly of Marshalltown, died Saturday morning, Oct. 8, in an accident in Clay County, Ill. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13, at Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 to 8 tonight. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com. A time of fellowship and refreshments will be at the hospitality room of the funeral home following interment rites. Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Shawn and his family.
Shawn Peterson was born Sept. 24, 1965, in Marshalltown, the son of Darrel K. and Sharon "Chuckie" K (Dougan) Peterson. He graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1984. He served proudly in the U.S. Army from 1984-88. He was production manager for HydroGear in Sullivan, Ill., and a member of the Sullivan Country Club. In Iowa, he worked for Sauer Sundstrand and General Filter.
He was a loving and generous father, fiancé, son and brother who was extremely dedicated and passionate about his work. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
On the day of his death, he was to marry his fiancé, Jody M. Barksdale of Sullivan, Ill. She survives as do his children, Brayden Shawn Peterson and Autumn Katherine Peterson of Sullivan, Ill.; his parents, Darrel K. and Sharon "Chuckie" Peterson of Marshalltown; two brothers, Dirk (Lori) Peterson of Ankeny, and Dustin (Ruth) Peterson of Marshalltown; one sister, Heather (Mike) Jerome of Marshalltown; paternal grandmother Mildred Peterson of Marshalltown; nieces and nephews Michail and Nicole Peterson, Lyndee and Bowden Jerome and Mason Dhyne; aunts Cathy (Bob) Arthur of Marshalltown, Dee Koch (John Jones) of Gilman, Jean Marino of Des Moines, Jean Peterson of St. Peter, Minn.; uncles Ron (Sue) Peterson of Kansas City, Mo., and Virgil (Darlene) Peterson of Marshalltown, several cousin as well as numerous friends.In death, he has rejoined his maternal grandparents and paternal grandfather.
