Obituaries

George O. Severeid

Funeral services for George O. Severeid, 91, of Oak Park Manor, Nevada, were held Friday, Nov. 7, at 2 p.m., at Adams Funeral Home in Ames Pastor C.A. Gisselquist of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Story City, officiated. Music was by Mrs. Charles Fullhart at the organ rendered four requested selections, "Crossing The Bar," "Somewhere," "How Great Thou Art," and "God Will Take Care of You." Interment was at the Story Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Ames.

George Olai Severeid was born June 28, 1884 in Gravdahl, Norway, to Amund and Herborg Severeid. He came to Story City at the age of nine years with his parents. He passed away at the Story County Hospital in Nevada on Tuesday, Nov. 4. He was confirmed in the Lutheran faith, and a member of the Immanuel Lutheran church while he resided in Story City.

He was a carpenter and cabinet maker and was associated with the Iowa State University Carpenter Shop for twenty four years, and retired in 1949. He was married to Mae Davis on March 4, 1929. She preceded him in death in 1949. Also preceding him in death were his parents, two brothers in infancy, one brother Hans Severeid, a sister, Julia Severeid Alsager.

Surviving him are three sisters, Mrs. Laura Hastings, Hyatsville, Maryland, Mrs. Inga White, Bethany Manor, Story city and Mrs. Helen Howell, National Lutheran Home, Washington, D.C. Also four step-children, three nieces and one nephew.
