STARK, EMMA PEARL BAILOR (MRS. HAROLD H.) (1890-1961)

“MRS. EMMA PEARL STARK – Emma Pearl, daughter of George and Jennie Bailor was born December 22, 1890, near Rhodes, Iowa and passed away April 14, 1961, at the Story County hospital in Nevada, after an illness of several years. She spent her early life near Rhodes and as a young lady attended Leander Clark College at Toledo, Iowa. On December 20, 1916 she was united in marriage to Harold H. Stark and lived for a while at Perry, Iowa. To this union was born one daughter, Mrs. Charlotte Olive (Chas) Laughlin. Mr. Stark became a Methodist minister and served charge at Cooper, Beaver-Berkley, Colo, Luther-Napier, Marion Street Boone – Prairie Center Yale – Prairie Center, Richland (Batavia-Eldon), Keota and Prairie City, where he passed away. Mrs. Stark was a member of the Maxwell Methodist Church, Federated Women’s Club and Annie Laurie Chapter, O.E.S. She was active in the Woman’s Society for many years in the Boone District and served on the Conference Board of Education of what is now the South Iowa Conference. She was a devoted Christian, a loving mother and cheerful helpmate of her pastor husband. She is survived by her daughter, Charlotte Olive Laughlin and five grandchildren, Thomas Reese of Colorado, Donald Reese of California, Charlene, Harold and Anita at home. Funeral services were held Monday, April 17 at 10:30 a.m. in the Maxwell Methodist Church with Rev. M. E. McClellan and Rev. George Yetter in charge. Mrs. Alice Gooden accompanied at the organ by Mrs. Madeline Summitt sang, “Near to the Heart of God” and “The Lord is My Shepherd.” Casket bearers were E. J. Travis, Paul Curtis, Larry Dolson, Milton Mohr, Clarence Godby and Tolferd Sesker. Interment was in the Violet Hill Cemetery at Perry, Iowa.” “CARD OF THANKS – With deepest gratitude we extend this word of thanks for the many kind acts of sympathy during the last illness and death of our loved one, expressed by thoughtful friends, neighbors and organizations. These kindnesses have meant much to us. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Laughlin and family.”
