THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Monday, September 26, 2005.

Slava Orazem, 77, of Manhattan, Kan., died Wednesday, Sept. 21, at Mercy Regional Health Center in Manhattan.

Slava was born May 30, 1928, in Cerknica, Slovenia, the daughter of Edvard Furlan and Angela Sega Furlan. She grew up in Cerknica and attended the local elementary and secondary schools. In 1949, she immigrated to the United States and settled in Salina, Kan., where she graduated with a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Marymount College.

She married Frank Orazem June 30, 1953 in Salina. She lived for a short time in Ames before coming to Manhattan in 1956. While her children were young, she was a dedicated wife, mother and homemaker. In 1977, after her children were older, she began teaching mathematics at Manhattan High School. She retired in 1989.

She was a member of Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Manhattan, an active member of the League of Women Voters and helped to organize the Flinthills Parkinson's Support Group.

She is survived by her husband; three sons, Mark Orazem and his wife, Jennifer, of Gainesville, Fla., Peter Orazem, and his wife, Patti, of Ames and Thomas Orazem and his wife, Patricia, of Manhattan, Kan.; two daughters, Mary Anne Martins, and her husband, Bob, of Alexandria, Va., and Helena Grinter, and her husband, Mark, of Manhattan, Kan.; three brothers, Vladimir Furlan, France Furlan and Valentine Furlan, all of Slovenia; three sisters, Zofija Urbas and Joza Mlinar, both of Slovenia and Anica Radivojevic, of Serbia; four grandchildren and three step grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 27, at Seven Dolors Catholic Church with Father Joseph Popelka as celebrant. Burial will be in Sunrise Cemetery in Manhattan.

A Rosary, followed by a Parish Vigil Service, will be at 7 p.m., Monday, Sept. 26, at Irvin-Parkview Funeral Home in Manhattan.
