TORES RYEN LAID TO REST

Remains of Former Slater Citizen Laid To Rest in the Bethlehem Cemetery On Friday.

At the Bethlehem church last Friday afternoon occurred the funeral services over the remains of Mr. Tores Ryen, former citizen of this vicinity, but for the past eighteen years of Story City. Rev. Duea had charge of the services, addressing a large audience of former neighbors, relatives and friends in the English language. Solos were rendered by Mrs. M. S. Heggen and Mrs. Rev. Nilsen. The two also sang a duet. Burial was made in the Bethlehem cemetery.

Deceased was born at Olen, Norway, February 19, 1841. He came to America in 1866 and made Illinois his home till 1873. At that time he moved to Iowa, taking up his residence north of Slater where he lived till 1903, when he removed to Story City, where he resided at the time of his death, having reached an age of eighty years and two days. He left to mourn his death his aged wife and four daughter and one son. They are Mrs. A. W. Gandrup of Story City and Mrs. J. M. Brown, Mrs. John Ihle and Mrs. Casper Rimathe of north of town and Mr. Peter Ryen of this place.

Deceased had been in the very best of health till last fall. While reaching Story City, after a visit at the home of his brother, Knute, at Huxley, who was critically ill and later died, he took suddenly ill on stepping off the train at Story City and had to be assisted to his home. From then on he had gradually failed till death called him on the evening of the 21st. He had been no worse and on the previous Saturday he had celebrated his 80th birthday with his family.

Deceased had long been an ardent worker and at the time of his death was an honored member of Rev. Heimark's congregation at Story City, from where services were held on Thursday.
