THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, September 13, 2005.

Judean M. Weltha, 74, of Ames died at home Saturday, Sept. 10. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14, at Elim Lutheran Church in Randall. Burial will be in Mamreland Cemetery near Randall.

Judean was born April 16, 1931, in Ellsworth, to Joseph and Anna (Eness) Weltha. He moved to a farm south of Randall at the age of five, where he lived for 62 years. He graduated from Randall High School. He attended Simpson College until he was drafted to serve during the Korean War. He served 1 1/2 years in Germany. He married Ruth Ann Marty on Jan. 15, 1956, in LuVerne.

He farmed for 37 years. After retiring from farming, he worked at the Iowa State University Horticulture farm for five years, followed by McFarland Clinic for eight years where he thoroughly enjoyed visiting with those coming to the clinic.

He was a lifetime member of Elim Lutheran Church serving on the board of trustees. He also served on the Randall Elevator Board for more than 20 years, Bible Camp Board, township trustee, Mamreland Cemetery Board and the 4-H Board. He was a charter member of the Randall Lions, in which he served in many capacities. After moving to Ames, he joined the morning Ames Lions Club.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth; one son, Michael (Karen); and three daughters, Paula (Wayne) Neuman, Cynthia Johnson and Debra Weltha; nine grandchildren; two sisters, Ethel Sampson and Florence (Kenneth) Brooks; and many nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Robert and wife, Donna; one brother-in-law, Leonard Sampson; and one son-in-law, David Johnson.

Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today with the family present from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Soderstrum Funeral Home in Story City.
