THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, September 13, 2005.
Alice Wicklein, 87, of Rochester, Minn., died Sunday, Sept. 11, at Samaritan Bethany Home. Funeral services will be Thursday, Sept. 15, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Rochester. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14, at Macken Funeral Home and also one hour prior to the church service. Burial will be at noon Friday, Sept. 16, at Homewood Cemetery in Ellsworth.
Alice was born and raised in Ellsworth, where she graduated from high school in 1934. She graduated from the Waterloo School of Beauty Culture in 1955. She worked six years in Oelwein as a hairdresser and shop manager. She worked at Douglas Aircraft in Long Beach, Calif., during World War II. She married Franklin Wicklein in 1944 at Battle Creek, Mich., where he was in the U.S. Army. She later worked at JC Penney in Des Moines while her husband was overseas. When her husband was discharged from the service, they moved to Minneapolis, where she worked for JC Penney. They moved to Byron, Minn., in 1966 and later to Rochester, where she worked nine years at Sears.
She is survived by her husband, Franklin; one daughter, Brenda Wicklein of Minnetonka, Minn.; and one son, Brian (Carolyn) Wicklein, of Dodge Center, Minn.
She was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.
Macken Funeral Home in Rochester is in charge of arrangements.
