OBITUARY OF REV. MOSEBACH

Life Story of Rev. Friedrick Mosebash, For Many Years Pastor Near Alleman.

The following obituary of Rev. Mosebach, pastor of the German Reformed church of southeast of Slater, was received too late for insertion in last week's issue, and we gladly give it space this week. Deceased was well and favorably known in the community southeast if Slater, where he served as pastor over fourteen years.

Rev. Friedrick Moseback was born in Borbeck, Rhine, Provine, Germany, March 24th, 1849, a son of Anton and Wilhelmina Mosebach. He received a Christian training at home and already in his youth felt a call for the service of his Lord and Master. He took a preparatory course in a school at Muelhiun, An Der Ruhr, where he studied four years. In 1876 he came to America and entered the Mission House near Sheboygan, Wisconsin, and there he finished his theological training in a two years' course in the seminary of that institution.

Having been ordained by the Sheboygan class as a minister of the gospel, he came to his first field of labor at Garner, Iowa, in August, 1878. The following year, June 13th, 1879, he entered the bonds of holy wedlock with Miss Helena Engelmann of Mosel, Wisconsin, bringing his young wife to his field of labor. Together they labored faithfully in the Lord's cause, doing real pioneer work of the Reformed church on the open prairies of this state. Rev. and Mrs. Mosebach faithfully served their Master in the active ministry for about thirty-five years, as follows: Garner, Iowa, five years, nine months; Slater, Iowa, fourteen years, four months; Melbourne, Iowa, eight years, two months; Schaller, Iowa, six years, two months. By this time a cross, which it had pleased God to put upon his servant, made it impossible ---------. ---sebach to further serve in the active ministry. Rev. and Mrs. Mosebach therefore came to Melbourne, where they had a home, where he spent his declining years.

Rev. and Mrs. Mosebach were blessed with six children, five sons and one daughter, as follows: Fred of Sheldahl, Iowa, Sam of Des Moines, Iowa, Paul of Melbourne, Iowa, while two sons, Herman, who died at the age of 5 years, and Otto, having died in the prime of manhood in the month of June, 1921, have preceded their father into a better world, both of them resting in cemeteries near Sheldahl, Iowa.

Rev. Mosebach had been subject to epilepsy for about twelve years, which gradually became more treacherous, and a sudden death was apprehended to some extent. Yet the summons of death came somewhat unexpected while he had been working in the garden the bigger part of the forenoon of Wednesday, April 12th. At about 6 o'clock he was overcome by one of his attacks and death was probably instant. He thus attained the age of 73 years and 19 days and left to mourn his departure his faithful helpmate, Mrs. Mosebach, three sons and one daughter, twelve grandchildren and other relatives, besides many friends.

Funeral services were held from the St. John's Reformed church Sunday afternoon, April 16th, and the remains laid to rest in the Melbourne cemetery.
