REV. SHEA'S TRIBUTE TO DEPARTED FRIEND

Obituary Read at the Funeral of the Late J. N. Fowler Wednesday.

Special to the JOURNAL.
AMES, June 29.--The funeral of the late James N. Fowler was held from the home at two o'clock Wednesday afternoon being conducted by Rev. A. M. Shea of the M. E. church. The following obituary and tribute of respect was read. "James Nichols Fowler was born in Searsport, Maine, June 20, 1864 and died at the family home on Duff street Sunday, June 24, 1906. He was married to Miss Myrtle Little Feb. 17, 1898, by Rev. D. L. Thomas. The deceased came to America in 1894, since which time he has been one of our most successful and thorough representative business men. In the history of our departed friend there is no vice to deplore and but few errors to lament. We do not say that he had no infirmities, no frailties, but we do hold that his integrity, unselfish interest in the welfare of others and his devotion to a high standard of right constitute a priceless heritage to his family and friends. He was a man of practical knowledge. He impressed us having no desire to dwell in the abtruce regions of metaphysical science, and to abstract himself from every day affairs of life, but rather to make both his knowledge and his judgment of practical service to his fellow men. Mysterious indeed is the providence which has deprived the home of a loving husband, our commercial interests of a commanding figure, and our social life of a true friend. And when we dwell upon of the loss untried, unfelt as yet, perhaps; we are tempted to protest but when we remember that His purpose is greater than our own and that His promise is that all things shall work together for the good, to those who are called according to His purpose. We yield our loved ones to Him, and with hope and faith and prayer await the results of parental training and the application of Christian ethics to the daily problems of this earthly life."
