RITTGERS, MARGARET CRISPIN (1874-1951)

THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, October 25, 1951.
“BELOVED MOTHER SUCCUMBS. – Margaret Crispin, daughter of Mary and Benjamin Crispin, was born Janurary first, 1874, near Centerville, Ohio; and passed away October 8th, 1951, at the Lutheran hospital in Des Moines, Iowa, at the age of 77 years, 9 months and 7 days. She was the ninth child in a family of twelve children. While yet a child she moved with her parents to Illinois, and later to a farm near Grimes, Iowa, where she lived for 17 years. On February 19th, 1896 she was united in marriage to George Eugene Rittgers, who passed away in January of 1928. To this union were born three children: Harold, who resides on a farm near Maxwell, Iowa; Dale, and an infant daughter who preceded her in death. Mr. and Mrs. Rittgers lived on a farm near Grimes for years, later moving to a farm near Maxwell., where they lived until Mr. Rittgers death. Mrs. Rittgers then purchased a home in Maxwell, where she lived until her death. When a young girl she became a member of the Methodist Church at McDivitts Grove, which is near Grimes. She leaves to mourn her passing, her son Harold of this community; three brothers Mr. F. N. Crispin of Grimes; Charles Crispin of Boone; and Ben Crispin of Des Moines; also two sisters, Mrs. Emma Fryer and Mrs. S. T. Russell, both of Grimes; and one grandson, George Eugene who lives in California. Also many nieces, nephews and friends. Services were held on Thursday, October 18 at 2:00 o’clock at the Maxwell Methodist Church with Rev. Oren B. Hall in charge. Casket bearers: Wm. Van Hook, Earnest Pearson, Jay Pearson, T. J. Sparks, C. B. French and Harry E. Fackler. Mrs. Ray Gooden sang “Good Night and Good Morning” and “We Are Gpoing Down the Valley” accompanied at the piano by Mrs. Betty Porter. Burial was in Peoria Cemetery.” “CARD OF THANKS. To all the friends who sympathy and services were so kindly tendered in our time of bereavement, we desire to extend our sincere thanks. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Rittgers, George Rederus.”
