ULUM ELIZA THORNTON (MRS. SHERMAN ULUM) 1865-1951)

THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, October 25, 1951.
“MRS. ULUM RITES FRIDAY. – Eliza Thornton Ulum, daughter of Peter N. and Cecelia Batle Thornton, was born in Grant County, Wisconsin near Bloomington on September 24, 1865. She passed to her Eternal rest near Nevada, Iowa, on October 17th 1951 at the age of 86 years and 25 days. She was united in marriage to Sherman Ulum on February, 18, 1891. Eliza came with her parents to live in Story county in the year 1884. As a young girl she joined the Dalton U. B. Church, later moving her membership to the Maxwell Methodist Church. She was a very ardent, hard worker in the W. S. C. S. giving time, talent and prayer for its advancement. She was the last member of the Peter Thornton family. Her husband, Sherman Ulum, her parents, four brothers and three sisters preceded her in death. She leaves several nieces and nephews and many friends to mourn her passing, also Floyd Bullock and Eileen Myers who lived in the home several years. Mrs. Marie Conly sang “Some time You’ll Understand” and “Jesus Lover of My Soul’ accompanied by Laura Pearson. The casket bearers were six of her nephews. Services were from the Cooper-Moore Funeral Home and Interment in the Colo cemetery.”
