DEATHS

JESSIE (ROE) HANKINS

Jessie (Roe) Hankins, 93, of Nevada IA died Nov. 1, 1987, at Colonial Manor in Zearing IA where she had lived for the past five years. She died quietly in her sleep.

She was born March 17, 1894, in Fernald IA to William and Elizabeth (Chitty) Roe. At age 15 she started playing the organ at Sunday school and church in Fernald. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and a retiree of Donnelley Marketing in Nevada. In the 1920's through the early 1940's she had her own dance band.

She was married to Goldmer Hankins on Oct. 30, 1912, at her parents' home in Fernald. They were married 56 years before Mr. Hankins death in 1968 and had lived most of their married life in Nevada.

Mrs. Hankins is survived by two sons, Glen of Nevada and Donald of Phoenix AZ; three daughters, Evelyn Cook of Denver CO, Vivian (Mrs. DeWayne) Wilkening and Virginia (Mrs. Wayne) Boten, both of Nevada; 18 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Goldmer Hankins Sr., and a son, Goldmer Hankins Jr.; her parents, four brothers and a foster brother, Joe Smay.

Funeral services were Saturday, Nov. 14, at 1 p.m. at Cooper-Ryan Funeral Home, 5th St. and Lincoln Hwy., Nevada, with Rev. William Ballard of the Nevada United Methodist Church officiating. Interment was in Nevada Cemetery, Nevada. Visitation was held Friday, Nov. 13, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

A memorial fund has been established.
