OBITUARIES
John W. Turner
John W. Turner, 70, died Feb. 24 at Albany General Hospital, Albany General Hospital, Albany, OR. Turner grew up in Nevada IA.
He was born Jan. 24, 1919 in Iola, KS. He served with the US Navy and retired with approximately 20 years of service.
Turner resided for a time in Las Vegas, NV, were he was an antique dealer and flea market operator, and later to Boulder City, NV, where he owned and operated a hardware store until 1980. He moved to the Scio, OR area in 1983.
He married Helen M. Martin on Oct. 13, 1941 at Roswell, NM. She died in 1980. He married Marilyn Rogers on April 9, 1981 in Las Vegas.
Turner was known to many as Bill Guge when he graduated from high school in 1938. He attended the United Methodist Church.
Besides his wife, Turner is survived by his son John Jr. of Las Vegas, NV; daughter Patricia Turner of Las Vegas, NV; stepdaughters Diane Droze of Show Low, AZ and Denise Vasseur of Hamden, CT; brother Eldon Guge of Ames, IA and sister Alice Baldus of Nevada, IA.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at Jost Funeral Home in Lebanon, OR. Private burial was at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, OR.
Memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society.
