TOMLINSON, LESLIE E. (1922-1998)

AMES TRIBUNE, August 20, 1998. “LESLIE E. TOMLINSON, May 15, 1922 – Aug. 18, 1998. Leslie E. Tomlinson, 76, of Huxley, died of complications of leukemia Tuesday at Mary Greeley medical Center. Funeral services are 11 a.m. Friday at Fjeldberg Lutheran Church in Huxley, with the Rev. Russell Creydt officiating. Burial will be in Palestine Church Cemetery near Huxley. Leslie e. Tomlinson was born in Albert Lea, Minn., to Charles E. and Meda (Thomas) Tomlinson. He was a veteran of World War II who served in the U. S. Navy Seabees in the South Pacific. On Oct. 5, 1947, he married Neoma Bjelland at Palestine Lutheran Church near Huxley. He lived in Huxley and Cambridge before moving to fairbault, Minn., in 1983; he returned to Huxley in 1998. Mr. Tomlinson worked as a supervisor at Firestone Tire and Rubber in Des Moines, retiring in 1982. He was a former member of the Masonic Lodge and Cambridge American Legion. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Michael Tomlinson of Robison, Ill., Mark Tomlinson of Huxley, and Vincent Tomlinson stationed in Freilsburg, Germany (Army); one sister, Ruth Knaack of Green Valley, Ariz.; three brothers, Charles of Sioux City, Melvin of Des Moines and Paul of Mission, Texas; and 11 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother. Visitation is today after 3 p.m., with the family present from 6:30 to 8 p.m., at the Soderstrum-Riis Funeral Home in Slater.”

Tomlinson, 76, of Huxley died Tuesday, Aug. 18, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames of complicatios of leukemia. Services were held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, Aug. 21, at Fjeldberg Lutheran Church in Huxley with Rev. Creydt officiating. Burial was in the Palestine Church Cemetery near Huxley. OBITUARY – Leslie Tomlinson was born May 15, 1922 in Albert Lea, Minn. to Charles E. and Meda (Thomas) tomlinson. During World War II he served with the SeaBees in the South Pacific. He was united in marriage with Neoma Bjelland on Oct. 5, 1947 at Palestine Lutheran Church near Huxley. He was employed as a supervisor at Firestone Tire and rubber in Des Moines, retiring in 1982. He was a former member of the Masonic Lodge and the Cambridge American Legion. He lived in the Huxley and Cambridge communities before moving to Faribault, Minn. in 1983. They returned to Huxley in 1998. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Rex Tomlinson. Survivors include his wife, Neoma Tomlinson of Huxley; three sons, Michael Tomlison of robinson, Ill., Mark Tomlinson of Huxley, and Vincent Tomlinson, stationed with the U. S. Army in Freilsburg, Germany; 11 grandchildren; a sister, Rjuth Knaack of Green Valley, Ariz.; and three brothers, Charles Tomlinson of Sioux City, Melvin Tomlinson of Des Moines, and Paul Tomlinson of Mission, Tex. Soderstrum-Riis Funeral Home in Slater handled the arrangements.”
