B. J. Ritland Funeral Services Held In Roland

Funeral services for B. J. Ritland of Zearing were held Saturday, July 7 at 1:30 p.m. for a prayer service at the Bergen Church parlors and 2 p.m. in the Bergen Lutheran Church. Rev. Howard Lybeck officiated at the services.

Mrs. O. E. Ritland was soloist, who sang "Den Store hvide flok vise" at prayer service and "I'm but a stranger here" at the church service.

Pall bearers were L. C. Anderson, Elmer Osmundson, Carl Sparboe, Earl Ritland, Lloyd Ritland and Howard Ritland.

Life Sketch

Benhard Ritland was born June 8, 1871 on the old Ritland homestead three miles northwest of Roland. He was baptized at the St. Petri Church in Story City by the Rev. N. Amlund and confirmed by the Rev. C. B. Jacobson, November 14, 1886 in the Bergen Church in Roland.

He was married December 16, 1897 to Malinda Haugland. To this union four children were born of which three of them have preceded their father in death. He was engaged in farming near McCallsburg until he retired in 1941 and moved to McCallsburg where they lived until they moved to Zearing in 1950.

He was in failing health for several years, and was taken to the Collins Retirement Nursing home April 6, 1962 where he was cared for by Mrs. Ruth Fronsdahl until he died Wednesday, July 4 at the age of 91 years and 24 days.

He was a longtime member of Bergen Lutheran Church in Roland.

Ritland was preceded in death by two sons, Clarence and Bent and a daughter, Emma. He is survived by his wife, Malinda ad son, Bert and a brother, Osmond Ritland of Roland, many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
