Rites Held June 2 For W. R. Johnson

Funeral services for Mr. W. R. Johnson, long time resident and businessman in Cambridge, Iowa, were held Thursday, June 2, at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Cambridge with Pastor C. E. Brueland officiating. Interment was in Cambridge Cemetery. Music was provided by Mrs. D. E. Ryerson, Mrs. Alex Egeland and Mrs. Leo Miller. Casket bearers were: Dennis Ingram, Earl Gardner, Lloyd Porter, C. M. Lewis, John Erickson and A. J. Birkestrand.

Obituary

William Rasmus Johnson was born on the island of Bornholm in Denmark April 17, 1877, and died May 31, 1960 at the age of 83 years at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa.

At the age of 13 he came to the United States and at the age of 21, he was naturalized as an American citizen.

On Sept. 6, 1906 he was united in marriage to Ella Beebe at Wiota, Iowa. To this union was born one son, Roy. Mr. and Mrs. Johnson moved to Cambridge in 1920. Mr. Johnson had been active in business for 40 years in Cambridge. For a number of years he was a faithful and devoted member of Nazareth Lutheran Church in Cambridge. He served on the town council and was a member of other civic organizations.

He was preceded in death by his wife.

Billie is survived by his son Roy, and two granddaughters, Verlynn and Claudia of Cambridge; also five sisters, Mrs. Christine Ruth and Mrs. Ella Stone of Des Moines, Mrs. Martin Bonney and Mrs. Joe Cooper of West Des Moines, and Mrs. Jessie Main of Casey, Iowa.

He is also survived by a host of other relatives and friends.
