Rites Held for M. J. Baldus Recently

Funeral services for M. J. Baldus, lifetime resident of the Story City community, were held at S. S. Peter and Paul's Catholic Church, southwest of Story City at 10 a.m. on May 21. Rev. Father Joseph Griffin officiated. The church choir under the direction of Mrs. Jie Baldue, sang the requiem high mass. Mrs. Lewis Leininger was at the organ.

Pallbearers were Roy Sweet, Henry Thorsbakken, Joe Baldus, Everett Baldus, Arnold Baldus and Lawrence Wirth.

Burial was in S.S. Peter and Paul cemetery.

Obituary

Milford J. Baldus, son of John and Elizabeth Baldus was born July 4, 1897 on a farm south of Story City. On February 12, 1918 he was united in marriage to Eva Corbin at St. Patrick's Church in Nevada. To this union three daughters and two sons were born. They are Mrs. Alma O'Donnell of Colo, Mrs. Virginia McCoy of Story City, Marjorie Baldus of Ames, Milford Jr. and Norman both of Story.

In 1919 Baldus started in the hatchery business and remained active in that business for 40 years. In 1949 he served as president of the Iowa Poultry Association. He served as chairman of District 5 for 12 years and throughout the 46 years he was in business he maintained an active interest in the state association.

He was active in the community affairs, having served as president of the Story City Commercial Club. He also served on the city council and was one of the original board members of the Story City Memorial Hospital.

He is survived by his wife, three daughters, two sons and eight grandchildren.

His step-mother, Mrs. John Baldus of Story City and five brothers also survive.
