Funeral Rites For William C. Eddy Sunday Afternoon
Funeral services for William Cooper Eddy, 71, who passed away May 26 in the Deaconess hospital in Marshalltown, were held from the Johnson Grove church Sunday afternoon at 2:30 following a short prayer service at the home at 2 p. m.
The services were in charge of his pastor, Harry C. Ogden.
The many beautiful flowers were cared for by Mrs. Pat Carmody and Mrs. Walter Rasmusson.
"The Old Rugged Cross" was sung as a solo by Miss Beeula Settle and "In the Sweet Bye and Bye" was sung as a duet by Miss Settle and Mr. Ogden. The accompanists were Martin Ogden and Miss Settle.
The casket bearers were Stanley Fincham, Harley Davis, Joe Buffington, Alva Davis, Charles Webb and Gus Ludwig. Interment was in the Johnson Grove cemetery.
William Cooper Eddy, youngest son of Alfred and Arminda Eddy, pioneer residents of Story county, Iowa, was born September 19, 1878. He departed from this life May 26, 1950 at the age of 71 years, eight months and seven days.
He was born in Sherman township and spent his entire life there on the Eddy homestead.
On Saturday, May 20, he suffered a stroke and entered the Deaconess hospital in Marshalltown on Sunday, a week ago yesterday.
He was a long-time member of the Johnsons Grove M. E. church.
Left to mourn his departure are one brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Orlando Eddy of Iowa Falls, a sister-in-law, Mrs. Susie Eddy of Hampton, the following nephews, nieces and their families: Harry Eddy, Rhodes; Mrs. J. B. Miller, Hampton; Mrs. Paul Benner, State Center; Delos Eddy, Iowa Falls; Mrs. Robert Collins, Marshalltown; Herbert Eddy, Zearing and Russell Eddy and LeRoy Eddy, both of Alexandria, Virgini, among other relatives and friends.
His parents, four brothers and one sister preceded him in death.
