THE MAXWELL TRIBUNE, Maxwell, Iowa, Thursday, May 10, 1951, page 4, column 2. “FINAL CEREMONY FOR SISTER ELIZABETH C. WARFIELD. – Elizabeth Catherine Warfield was born near Iowa Center on November 9, 1867 and left this world on May 6 at the age of 82 years 5 months and 27 days. Elizabeth was the daughter of James and Nancy Brown, pioneers of Iowa Center. She spent her entire life in this vicinity. Her life was one of hard work but she always found time for sharing what she had and doing good for others. Her favorite pastime in her sunset years was making beautiful quilts and fancy work for her son and grandchildren’s homes. The past two years she has been in failing health and had suffered a broken arm and several trips to the hospital. On April 27 she fell and broke her ankle and was again taken to the hospital and from there she spent the past week at the home of her brother, Sam Brown at Cambridge. Last Sunday she was brought home for the last time and passed away peacefully that evening. She leaves to mourn her passing her son Clinton and his wife Jessie of Maxwell; her brother, Sam Brown of Cambridge; her grandchildren, Mrs. Frank Hill and Mrs. Russell Sparks of Maxwell and Claude Warfield of Des Moines; three great grandsons, Murray and Clifton Hill and Danny Sparks of Maxwell, also Ola Hulderson who has made his home there for many years. Preceding her in death was her husband John; her father, who was a veteran of the Civil War, and her mother, James and Nancy Brown, sisters Martha Brown and Mary Kurtz, and brother Edward Brown, also half brother and sister Frank Brown and Rebecca Bennethum. She is laid to rest in grateful remembrance by her family in the same cemetery as those dear ones who have preceded her and by her husband John and a baby granddaughter and close to the home where she lived for so many years. Lizzie has been a member of Jeptha Rebekah Lodge, No. 187, of Maxwell for many years and was a very devoted member taking part in all activities when her health would permit. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, May 9th at 2:00 o’clock in the Iowa Center church with Rev. C. E. Lookingbill in charge. Mrs. Alice Gooden sang two solos, “The Nearer The Sweeter: and “Will There Be Any Stars in My Crown” accompanied by Mrs. Betty Porter at the piano. The many beautiful floral tributes were arranged and cared for by Mrs. Wilma Pierce and Mrs. Mary Adams. Rebekah ritualistic services were held at the close of the service. Pallbearers were Charles Adams, L. E. McQuiston, Robert Bowen, Carl Hill, Carl McIntire and Virgil Swarm. Interment was in the family lot in the Iowa Center Cemetery. Relatives attending from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Leo Fox of Des Moines, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Bennethum, Mrs. Richard Ballard, Mr. and Mrs. Guy Dehoet and children and Mr. and Mrs. Sam Brown of Cambridge, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Hanson of Nevada and Mrs. Cora Huff of Story City.”
