SAUNDERS FUNERAL AT M'CALLSBURG
PASSING OF PIONEER OF COUNTY WAS MARKED WITH RESPECT.

McCallsburg, Nov. 5--One of the largest funerals that has been held here recently was that of the late J. F Sanders which was held from the Presbyterian church Thursday afternoon, Rev. Genung officiating. Old time friends and neighbors filled the church as a final tribute of respect to the pioneer.A sad feature was that the wife was too ill to be present at the funeral.
James Frederick Sanders was born Jan. 25, 1838, near Mansfield, O., and did a his home in McCallsburg Oct. 28, 1924. He would have been 87 years of age next January. At an early age he moved with his parents to Indiana. On. Dec. 25, 1862 he was united in marriage to Pearly A. Booth and in 1875 they came to Story county and settled in Warren township and with the exception of a short time spent in Colo they have been residents of Story county ever since.
Besides the wife Mr. Sanders is survived by seven children, two children, the oldest and the youngest died in infancy. Those living are E. W. Sanders of Gilbert, Veda Hamilton of La Porte, Ind., Frank Sanders of Minneapolis, Rhoda Clark, Monticello, Ruth Reid, McCallsburg, Lena Ballard, Ashton and James Sanders of Sanburn all of whom were present at the funeral. Mr. and Mrs. Sanders were among the oldest settlers and are acquainted with all the privations of the pioneer.
In his earlier years in Indiana he was a school teacher and was always interested in educational lines and gave his children the best education that was possible in their day.
Mr. Sanders was always known as a good father, neighbor and citizen. By nature a home loving man and made such a home that his children were satisfied to stay in it until they went into homes of their own. He invested his life in his family and they grew up about him making good citizens like their father.
In infancy Mr. Sanders was baptized in the German Lutheran church. He was an active worker in the Presbyterian church here organized by Rev. Ferguson and also in the Methodist church at Pleasant Grove while a resident of that neighborhood.
Mr. and Mrs. Sanders celebrated their golden wedding anniversary twelve years ago having been married sixty-two years ago.
Music was furnished by Mrs. Nail, Miss Catherine Craig and Mr. Graves accompanied on the piano by Mrs. Clio Tett. The flowers which were beautiful were in charge of Mrs. A. J. Baumgardner and Mrs. N. F. Ambrose. The pall bearers were sons of older settlers, C. A. Gunder, Bert Baumgardner, A. C. Hanson and F. F. Menzel of this place and Sherman Griffith of Ames and Lee Shickell of Nevada. Burial was made in the family lot in the Warren township cemetery.
Among those in attendance at the funeral from out of town were Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Sanders and Ernest Sanders, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Sanders, Mr. and Mrs. Oren Lake, Mr. and Mrs. John Arrasmith of Gilvert, Mr. and Mrs. Chet Davis, Mr. and Mrs. Dotson, Oren and Sherman Griffith, Mrs. Lizzie Dickinson, Ames, Mr. and Mrs. Chris Clark of Monticello and their two sons Lloyd and Clyde Clark of Spirit Lake, Mr. and Mrs. Claude Sanders of Graettinger, Mrs. Ward Hamilton of La Porte, Ind., Frank Sanders of Minneapolis, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Ballard, Ashton, James Sanders, Sanborn, Mr. and Mrs. Adam Ruxton and sons, Dave and Jim Ruxton of Zearing, Mrs. John Norton, Fort Dodge, Mr. and Mrs. F. P. Thomas, Lee Shickell, Mr. and Mrs. Homer Boyse of Nevada, Mr. and Mrs. John Smith of Fernald, R. W. Peck and son Ray Peck, Mrs. E. C. Fenn of Roland, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Sowers of Story City.
The wife and children are extended the sympathy of the community in their bereavement.
