Jasper Mead Pioneer Iowan Died at State Center

State Center, Nov. 9--Jasper N. Mead, 79, a resident of central Iowa for 61 years, part of the time farming in Story county, died at his home in State Center at 10:45 a. m. Monday, following a decline in health since last spring when he underwent an operation.

Mr. Mead was born April 18 1858, in Bureau county, Ill., and came with his parents to Marshall county in January 1876, settling near Rhodes. After living in Story county a short time Mr. Mead purchased a farm south of Rhodes where the family lived until 1902, when the Oak Hill farm also near Rhodes was purchased. In 1925 Mr. Mead brought property in State Center, where he had operated a hatchery until two years ago.

Mr. Mead was first married July 4, 1883, to Miss Jennie E. Good of Rhodes, who died in 1922. They were the parents of three children, Elias Abram Mead of Wells, Minn., Miss Anna Pearl Mead of State Center, and William Irvin Mead of Rhodes. His second marriage occurred Jan. 29, 1925, to Mrs. Belle Crawford of State Center, and in December of the same year they located here.

Funeral arrangements are not completed.
