Charles George, Collins Pioneer; Died Last Night

Collins, April 10--Charles George, 89, for 58 years a resident of the Collins community and the oldest member of Fervent Masonic lodge, died at his home here Friday night at 10:30.

Mr. George had never recovered from the effect of injuries sustained in a fall upon the ice on January 8 last and his death was from illness due to such injury.

Born in Yorkshire, England, March 31, 1848, he came to America when twenty years of age, settling first in Illinois.

He was first married to Ann Brownbridge of Brighton, Mich. and they came immediately to Iowa and settled on a farm near Collins, becoming part of the colony of English people who had located in this community.

Three children were born to the couple. One died in infancy, while the others are William George of Ottumwa and Mrs. Pearl Viggers of Des Moines. The first wife died in 1921.

The second marriage was on January 30, 1930, when he took Mrs. Etha Henson as a bride. She survives him.

Besides the one son and one daughter, he is survived by the wife, a step-son Raymond Henson of near Maxwell, 10 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

He was a member of the Methodist church of Maxwell in which he had always been active, was the oldest living member of Fervent lodge A. F. & A. M. of Collins and was also a member of the local chapter of O. E. S.

The funeral will be held Monday afternoon at 2:00 at the Collins Methodist church. Burial will be at the Evergreen cemetery in Collins under the ritualistic ceremonies of the Masonic Lodge, with Fervent lodge A.F. & A.M. in charge.
