Funeral Services for John H. Hill*

Huxley, Feb. 5--Funeral services for John Henry Hill were held on Tuesday afternoon at 1:00 p. m. from the Larson Funeral home in Huxley and at 2:00 from the Bethlehem church in Slater. Rev. R. E. Rorem spoke in the English language and chose as his text Matt. 11:28. Rev Peder Buland spoke in the Norwegian language.

Mrs. Roy Elliott and Mrs. Ira Hendricks sang a vocal duet "The Old Rugged Cross" at the Larson home and a quartette consisting of Mrs. A. Peterson, Mrs. Luella Heggen, Andrew Maland and Homer Lewis of Slater sang three songs at the services in Slater.

The pallbearers were Wier Ritland, A. T. Fjelland, F. P. Kalsem, Sac Toresdahl, S. K. Tweedt and Martin Romsa.

Relatives and friends from out of town in attendance at the services were Norris Sydnes, Scranton, Iowa, Elizabeth Emerson of Bayard, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Williams and Bonita, Mrs. Jeffry Houge and Mr. and Mrs. Orrie Tweedt all of Randall, Miss Bernice Hill of Des Moines and Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Craven of Ames.

John Henry Hill* son of Barney and Sarah Hill was born in Story county on December 27, 1855 and died January 28, 1937 reaching the age of 81 years, 1 month and 1 day. He was baptized in 1856 and confirmed in 1869 in the Fjeldberg church.

He was united in marriage to Isabelle Holland June 1, 1886. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary June 1, 1936. To this union 9 children were born. One son, Milton preceded him in death 6 years ago. He is survived by his widow and 8 children, 3 sons, Barney, Clarence and Jerome of Huxley, 5 daughters, Mrs. Pearl Lee of Slater, Mrs. Burnette Sydnes, Mrs. Hattie Kalsem, Mrs. Selda Williams and Ruth all of Huxley, 30 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. One of his great grandchildren, Sharon Louise Williams, died the same day.

He was taken sick about three weeks ago and was taken to Iowa City a week ago where he passed quietly away. One son, Barney, was at his bedside till death.

*SUBMITTER'S NOTE: The deceased is Henry B. Hill. The references to John H. Hill or John Henry Hill are a misnomer.
