OBITUARY
WM. SMAY
William Smay, one of the earliest and best known residents of this vicinity, died at his home here a few minutes before midnight last night. He had been in declining health for sometime; but his friends about town had not appreciated that his condition was so serious, and his death occasions much surprise.
Mr. Smay was born in Indiana, June 19, 1845, and died at Nevada, Iowa, February 1, 1915, aged 69 years, 7 months and 13 days. he came with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Absolom Smay, to Story county in 1859, the family home being established in Richland township. He was married at Nevada, December 31, 1868 to Miss Freda Kelly of the same neighborhood and their home has continued in Story county for the nearly fifty years of their married life. He is survived by his wife, his very aged mother, his two sons Grant and Warren, his one daughter Jennie, Mrs. John Bobo and his sister, Mrs. Alonzo Hague of Tacoma. Funeral arrangement await advice from the last named.
Mr. Smay was an active and public-spirited citizen, and he will be much missed in the community where he spent the most of his long and useful life.
