Mrs. H. R. L'hommedieu

Mary J. Ewings was born in Ohio May 2, 1835 and departed this life at her home in Colo, Iowa, Jan. 12, 1916 aged 80 years, 8 months and 10 days. She was the eldest of twelve children. When but a girl she came with her parents to Illinois. At an early age she professed faith in the religion of Christ and received the Sacrament of baptism, her parents being members of the church of Latter day Saints. Oct. 19, 1857 she was unit in marriage to Henry R. Lhommedieu. Four children were born to them. Oct 6, 1880 Mr. and Mrs. Lhommedieu moved with their family from near Sycamore, Ill., to their farm near Colo where they resided until about fourteen years ago when they returned from the farm and moved to town. About ten days ago she was taken suddenly ill and altho she did not seem to suffer very much but very little hope was entertained for her recovery. Mrs. Lhommedieu was of a quiet, retiring disposition was a loyal, loving wife, a devoted mother, a kind friend and neighbor. She has left to all who knew her the evidence of her faith in Christ. She leaves to mourn their loss her devoted husband, two sons Delbert E. and Frank I. and one daughter Mrs. Fannie I. Thornton all of Colo, (one daughter Mrs. Eva E. Thornton passed away in 1885,) five brothers Joseph of Rutherford, Cal., Hiram of Chanute, Kan., George of Buford, Ark., Milo B. of Plano, Ill. and Lyman of Michigan, one sister Mrs. Ency Dillon of Lamoni, Ia., seven grand children and three great grand children and many other relatives and numerous friends. Funeral services were held at the home at 10 a. m. Thursday conducted by Rev. W. C. McKinley. Interment was made in the Colo cemetery. Heartfelt sympathy of the entire community is extended to the bereaved ones.
