Last Rites for Sherman Nielson [sic] Thursday Afternoon

Slater, Oct. 8--Funeral services for Sherman Nielson [sic] were held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Riis Funeral Home. The services were in charge of Rev. J. H. Krenmyre, pastor of the Methodist church.

Beautiful floral offerings were given by relatives an friends. The American flag covered the casket. Homer Lewis sang two solos, "The Old Rugged Cross" and "When I Come to the End of the Road."

The pall bearers were members of the American Legion: Stanley Mosey, Henry Lilland, Henry Simmering, Harry Sheldahl, Orel Sheldahl and Tilden Olson. Burial was made in the Slater cemetery. The American Legion Post had charge of the services at the cemetery.

Sherman Nielson [sic] was born Feb. 23, 1910 in Slater and died Sept. 28, 1946 at Albert Lea, Minn., at the age of 36 years, 7 months and 5 days. His mother died in 1917 and he made his home in Slater the greater part of his lifetime with his grandparents, the late Mr. and Mrs. John Nielson [sic]. He attended the Slater schools. He served in the U. S. army for 15 months and received a medical discharge. For several months he had been working on a truck farm near Albert Lea and was walking into town when he was hit by a car.

He is survived by his father, Niels Nielson of Nevada, a sister, Mrs. Marguerite Roe of Madrid, two brothers, Loren of San Francisco, Calif., and Hubert Nielson of Slater.
