William Beard Dies At Rhodes"
(Marshalltown Times Republican ?)Rhodes -(Special)- William Henry Beard, 92, Rhodes resident since 1882 and two-term mayor of the town, died at his home at 7:40 p.m. Thursday. He had been ill of heart disease two years
.Services will be Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at the home and at 2 p.m. at the Methodist church. Burial will be in Eden cemetery. Elder V.G. Lents, Marshalltown, will be assisted by Rev. A. Keith Hauser, Methodist pastor.
Mr. Beard, son of John and Mary (Grubb) Beard was born near Collins Dec 31, 1858. He was a meat cutter many years, and foreman for a contractor for 17 years before his retirement in 1936. He never married.
Surviving are two (half) sisters, Mrs. Luella (Fish) Watson and Mrs. Minerva (Fish) Scott who made their home with him.

Former Rhodes Mayor W.H. Beard Dies
(Rhodes Tribune Number 40 ?)William Henry Beard, 91, a former Rhodes mayor and a resident of the community for 68 years, passed away at his home at 7:40 p.m. Thursday, June 22 (1950). For the past two years he had been in poor health due to heart trouble which became steadily worse and he had been seriously ill for the past month.
BORN NEAR COLLINS - William H. Beard, son of John and Mary Beard, was born on a farm near the present town of Collins December 31, 1858. He grew to manhood in that community receiving his education in he rural schools of that day. He came to Edenville, now Rhodes, in 1882 and this has been his home since.
He was a meat cutter by trade and for many years conducted shops of his own and for others. Among them were the late E.W. Harmon, Leo Perry, Vern Mallicoat and Clark Chambers, the latter of Collins. In later years he was construction foreman for the late R.E. Elzy, grading contractor, for 17 years. He served two terms as mayor of Rhodes. He retired in 1936 because of failing health.
He is survived by two (half) sisters, Mrs. Luella (Fish) Watson and Mrs. Minerva (Fish) Scott of Rhodes, other relatives and many friends.
SERVICES SUNDAY - Services were held from the home at 1:30 and at the Rhodes Methodist church at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon in charge of the Rev. H.W. Artman of Marshalltown assisted by the Rev. A. Keith Hauser. A male quartet composed of Ronald Good, Kenneth Haas, Martin Richeson and David Buck sang "In the Garden" and "Abide With Me" accompanied by Mrs. E.S. Haas. Flower bearers were Donna Richmond, Mrs. Kathleen Malechek, Mrs. Lawrence Ginter, Mrs. Maud Farrell, Mrs. Margaret Perry and Mrs. J.H. Boyd (& Charlotte Otte).
