Funeral Services at East Bergen Church for T. O. Johnson

McCallsburg, May 31--The funeral of Tom O. Johnson was held at the East Bergen's church Saturday afternoon, following a prayer service at the home, with his pastor Rev. M. O. Sumstad in charge.The pall bearers, chosen from among his neighbors were Tom Thorson, Hans Twedt, Andrew Vignes, Nels Torgerson, Martin Haukoos, Peter Lura. The music was furnished by a ladies' sextette from Bergen's church from Roland Mrs. Cyrus Thompon, Mrs. Rudolph Risdal, Mrs. Otis Anderson, Mrs. Noel Thompon, Mrs. Geo. Ornvig and Dorothy Ann Cole with Mrs. Rosheim sang "Rock of Ages" and "Abide With Me" and the congregation sang "What a Friend we have in Jesus." The many beautiful flowers were cared for by Miss Myrtle Twedt.
Burial was made in the church yard cemetery.
Toebjorn O. Johnson, son of Ole and Anna Johnson, was born May 25, 1859 at Kvinherrd, Norway, and with his parents came to America in 1866, locating in Clinton county where they lived nine years, coming to Story county in 1875 and settling on a farm northwest of McCallsburg which is known as the Johnson farm.
On April 2, 1893 he was united in marriage to Christy Egenes and for 45 years the family have resided on the farm where Mr. Johnson lived at the time of his death.
To Mr. and Mrs. Johnson were born four children, Martin who passed away Jan. 20, 1910 and Albert who passed away Oct. 15, 1928, and Joseph and Edward who with their mother mourn the passing of a good husband and father.
He is also survived by two brothers and one sister John O. Johnson of Ormsby, Minn., and Jonas O. Johnon of Rake, and Mrs. Martin T. Waula of McCallsburg.
Mr. Johnson has been in failing health for some time and after many weeks of suffering passed away at his home May 24, 1939 lacking only a few hours of being 80 years of age.
Thus another of Warren Township's pioneers has gone.
In attendance from a distance at the funeral were a large number of relatives including Mr. and Mrs. John O. Mrs. Sanford Egemo and children, Holmes, Ia., Mrs. John Hovick and baby, Jewell, O. L. Ose and Ervin, Mrs. Jasper Erickson and Charles of Story City; Mr. and Mrs. John Egenes of Roland, Miss Louisa Egenes, Des Moines, Iver Egenes, Story City, Mr. and Mrs. John Hensel, Audobon, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Thompson, Grand Meadows, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Martin Egenes, Frost, Minn.; Mrs. Bertha Ingebritson and grandson Terry Lee, Blue Earth, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. John Ingebritson of Thompson, Ia., Mr. and Mrs. Albert Ingebritsen, Lake Mills; Mr. and Mrs. Enoch Ide, Riceville; Mrs. Louisa Johnson and son Jesse, Story City, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Johnson, Roland and a large number of friends.
