Final Rites Held Wednesday for Geo. H. Hostetter

Funeral rites for George H. Hostetter, 65, West Lincoln Way farmer, who died here Sunday evening, held from the Nevada Church of Christ Wednesday afternoon and were attended by concourse of relatives, old neighbors and friends that filled the church to capacity.

The service was in charge of his pastor, Rev. C. V. Pence and the one song, a duet, was by Mrs. Lee Cook and Mrs. C. V. Pence who sang, "Have Thine Own Way, Lord." Mrs. T. B. Warren was at the piano.

Active pallbearers were John W. Cook, Ike Tudor, Lee Cook, Marlie Lobaugh, Corey Kurtz and C. B. Knight.

Honorary pallbearers were F. W. Kinsman, Mac Toms, W. W. Alexander, Nels Christiansen, Addison Kingsbury and Wesley Huff, these being selected from among his old neighbors on the farm.

The floral offerings were many and beautiful, a beautiful, though silent testimony of the very high regard in which Mr. Hostetter had been held.

Burial was in the Nevada cemetery.

Life Sketch Read

George H. Hostetter was born in Kappa, Woodard County, Illinois, December 8, 1873, the son of Samuel and Martha Hostetter. In 1897 Mr. Hostetter was married to Mary Ann Grove at Paola, Kansas and to this union were born four children. In February, 1907 he moved to Iowa from El Paso, Illinois and for fifteen years lived on a farm two miles west and one mile north of Nevada, Iowa. Then the family moved to the farm just across west from North Grant School, which has been the family home ever since.

Mr. Hostetter has been one of Story County's outstanding farmers. He loved the farm and has made a wonderful success of it. He was one of the very valued members of the Story County Farm Bureau.

For many years Mr. Hostetter took an active interest in the public schools of Story county. For a long time he was Secretary of North Grant school and in recent years was one of the directors.

Mr. Hostetter became a member of the Christian Church many years ago when he made his home in El Paso, Illinois. When he came to Story county he placed his membership in the Church of Christ of Nevada, Iowa. For many years he had been a member of the Church board, has taken an active interest in Church life and his place in the Church will be hard to fill. His presence every Sunday morning in the Church of Christ will be greatly missed. He was active in the building of the Church edifice, and his name is on the cornerstone.

Until two weeks ago when he was stricken with appendicitis, Mr. Hostetter and been unusually active for his age and had participated in the management of his farm and in community affairs. Two weeks ago he was taken to Iowa Sanitarium at Nevada, Iowa, where he passed away May 21, 1939. He leaves to mourn his passing his beloved wife, Mary Ann Hostetter, four children, Mrs. Robert Norton of Clarinda, Iowa, Clyde Hostetter on the home place, Mrs. C. T. Bloomquist of Racine, Wisconsin and Mrs. Lyle Hubbard on a farm one and one-half miles west of Nevada; he also leaves five grandchildren, Raymond and Marilyn Norton, Janet and James Bloomquist and Jimmy Hubbard, also one sister, Mrs. Nellie North of El Paso, Illinois, together with other relatives and a host of friends.

One grandchild, Mary Ann Bloomquist, preceded him in death on October 31, 1935.

Those in attendance from a distance at the funeral services were his sister Mrs. Mellie North and daughter, Mrs. Lewis Sturgeon, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Morris and daughter Violet, all of El Paso, Ill., Mrs. Charles Gibbs of Gridley, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Orren Ahrends and son Orren Robert of Clarion; Mr. and Mrs. Guy Wyant of Des Moines, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Stouffer of Rippey; Mrs. Tina Foster and daughter Lucinda and Don Crawford and Mr. and Mrs. Grove Foster and daughter Eva Frances of Ames.
