Funeral Services Held Wednesday for Mrs. D. G. Mills

Special to the Journal:
McCallsburg, Feb. 17--The funeral services of Mrs. D. G. Mills were held Wednesday afternoon at the Presbyterian church following a prayer service at the home and was in charge of her pastor, Rev. Joseph M. Kennedy, Nevada, Rev. C. B. Driver of Churdan who was expected to be here did not arrive due to a misunderstanding of the day having understood it was to be Thursday.

The pall bearers were neighbors and friends Chas. Christian, F. E. Nail, A. C. Hanson, James Hall, R. A. Thompson and J. S. Thompson and the flowers were in charge of Mrs. Clarence Severson and Mrs. Henry Mehlow.

Two songs "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" and "Some Day We'll Understand" were sung by Mrs. F. E. Nail and Mrs. W. H. Reid with Miss Cleo Tett at the piano. Henry Mehlow served as usher and burial was made in the family lot in the Warren township cemetery by the side of the husband who preceded her in death three years.

Sarah Linn Mills, daughter of John A. and Fannie J. Morrison was born in Jones county, Iowa April 15, 1862, passed away at her home in McCallsburg, Feb. 12, 1939, at the age of 76 years, 10 months and 27 days.

Her early girlhood was spent at the place of her birth and she later moved with her parents to a farm near Collins, Iowa, where she lived until her marriage of June 18, 1882, to Daniel G. Mills.

To this union were born four children, Guy W. of McCallsburg; John C. who passed away at his home in Collins 15 years ago; Althea M. and Mrs. C. T. Knudtson of Bricelyn, Minn., and Edward of Knoxville, Iowa.

After her marriage she and her husband engaged in farming the vicinity of Collins and Maxwell until 1892 when they moved to Iowa City where her husband studied medicine at the Iowa State University after he graduated in 1896 and moved with her husband and family to McCallsburg which continued to be her home until the time of her death.

Besides the immediate member of the family she is survived by two brothers, Thomas A. Morrison of Waterloo and Fred Morrison of Sedalia, Mo.; one sister, Mrs. Harry Robinson of Rhodes, fifteen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. After she moved to Collins with her parents she united with the M. P. church and after coming to McCallsburg she united with the Presbyterian church and continued to affiliation with same until her death.

She was a member of the Pilgrim Sunday school class, Women's Missionary society of the Presbyterian church. She was also a member of the local Royal Neighbors Lodge and American Legion Auxiliary also the Zearing chapter of Eastern Star.

Mrs. Mills as the wife of a doctor has been associated with the sorrows and joys of many people of the community and sympathized and rejoiced with them. Since the death of her husband three years ago she has lived most of the time and looked after by her son, Guy. She has been confined to her home most of the winter but able to be about the home until the past few weeks but on Sunday evening about five o'clock after having visited with a friend caller she made the remark that she was tired and soon after slipped away.

In attendance at the funeral were the daughter, Mrs. Chas. Knudtson and children, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Verlo and daughter, LaVon of Bricelyn, Minn., Dr. and Mrs. F. W. Mills of Ottumwa; W. E. Mills and Mrs. Rose Cheatham of Maxwell, Harry Robinson and son, Verne of Rhodes, Arthur Robinson and family of Colfax; Mr. and Mrs. Caroll Mills and son, Wayne of Melbourne, Mr. and Mrs. Laurence Mills and son, Allen of Marshalltown, Mr. and Mrs. Dan Knudtson of Ellsworth, Mr. and Mrs. Osmund Tunsvig of Radcliffe, Mr. Theodore and Miss Anna Knutson, Story City, Mrs. Earl Peck and Miss Eva Harris, Nevada.
