Funeral Services for Mrs. Wherry

Fernald, March 23--Funeral services for Mrs. Harvey Wherry were held in St. Paul's Lutheran church in Fernald on Wednesday at 2 o'clock with Dr. W. H. Blancke in charge.

Mrs. Harold Handsaker, Mrs. Vern Proctor, Howard Hilburn and Olin Bissell sang "Abide With Me," "It is Well with My Soul" and "Asleep in Jesus," with Mrs. John Picht at the piano.

The pallbearers were Will Mead, James Sowers, Cecil Apple, Vern Proctor, Dennis Hankins and E. M. Kriner. Mrs. Leslie Toot and Mrs. Conrad Swanson took care of the many lovely flowers.

Emma Mitchell, daughter of John and Harriet Mitchell was born November 11, 1869, in Jones county, Iowa and passed away at her home in Fernald, March 17, 1940 at the age of 70 years, 4 months and 6 days.

She was a pioneer family which came from Ohio and settled in Jackson county, Iowa, in the year 1837. She grew to womanhood in the family home just over the line in Jones county. For a number of years she engaged in the work of dress making and sewing.

As a young woman she united with the Methodist Episcopal church of Monmouth. In the year 1913 she came to Story county to make her home and January 24, 1918 she was unit in marriage with Harvey M. Wherry at the parsonage in Fernald by the late Rev. J. A. Lowe. Soon after coming to Story county she transferred her membership to the St. Paul's Lutheran church in Fernald of which church she remained a faithful member until her death.

She leaves to mourn her death her husband, three children, Mitchell Wherry of Oak Park, Ill., Lillian, now Mrs. Arnold Thiel of Armstrong, Iowa, and Naomi, now Mrs. Harold Rendleman of Bellwood, Ill.; four grandchildren, and three brothers, Wilbur Mitchell of Monmouth, Ia., and Laurence Mitchell of Tipton, Ia., besides a number of nieces and nephews and a large circle of friends.

Burial was in the family lot on the Nevada cemetery on March 20, 1940.

Those from a distance in attendance at the funeral were Mrs. Tolbert Mitchell and Laurence Mitchell of Tipton, Mrs. Elizabeth Mowry of Horonto, Ia.; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Mitchell, Baldwin, Ia.; Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Wherry, Mr. and Mrs. John Wherry and C. O. Wherry, all of Churdan, Ia.; Mrs. Nellie Wherry of Jefferson, Ia.; Mrs. Lonnie Wherry and son John; Mrs. Ivadel Lasko and Mrs. Homer Templeton of Des Moines, and Harry Sokol of Collins.
