Hold Huxley Rites For Mrs. C. Johnson

Huxley, Aug. 28--Funeral services for Mrs. Carrie Johnson were held here last Friday afternoon. A short devotional service at the home at which Walter Christopher sand "When I Gt to the End of the Way" preceded the services at the Palestine Lutheran church with Rev. H. E. Jacobson in charge.

Mrs. Selmer Westwold sang "Flee as a Bird" and Walter Christopher presented a Norwegian son, "Dem Store Veide Flok." A prayer was resided by Rev. Peter Buland of Cambridge.

Carrie Berge, daughter of Lars and Ann Berge, was born south of Huxley in Polk county on May 15, 1871. She was baptized in Fjeldberg Lutheran church by Pastor Weise and confirmed in Palestine Lutheran church by Pastor H. C. Holm.

On Dec. 17, 1889, she was united in marriage with Michael K. Johnson, also of this community. To this union were born four children. Mr. Johnson died Jan. 22, 1907.

Mrs. Johnson and her children continued to live on the farm until 1926 when she moved into Huxley. She had been a member of the Palestine congregation since her confirmation.

She had bee ill two years and her condition became more grave during her last few weeks. She died on Wednesday, Aug. 20 at the age of 76.

Pallbearers were six grandsons, Lester Mickelson [should be Michelson], Hubert and Merlin Johnson, Marion Johnson and Loren and DeWayne Johnson.

She leaves to cherish her memory four children, Mrs. Jacob Mickelson [should be Michelson], Slater; Lewis, Huxley; Oley, Elkhart; and Miller, Des Moines; one brother, Oscar Berge, Spirit Lake, who was unable to attend the funeral; 16 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Nephews who attended the rites from out of town were Mr. and Mrs. John Berg, Nellen and Leonard Berg of Spirit Lake.
