Clarissa Ellison Is Dead at 100
Ames, Aug. 28--A former longtime resident of Nevada, Mrs. Clarissa Jane Ellison died here this morning at the age of 100. Her death was attributed to old age and complications following a serious illness of about three weeks.
Funeral services will be held 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon at the Adams funeral home chapel in Ames with the Rev. G. S. Nichols pastor of Collegiate Methodist church in charge. Burial will be in Nevada cemetery
Born in Ohio on Feb. 18, 1847, the Story county pioneer came to this community when about 17 years old. She was married to William Stevens, a veteran of the Civil war. To this union seven children were born, three of whom survive.
After Stevens' death, the widow was united in marriage with Melbourn Ellison who was killed in a train accident at Nevada a few years ago.
She moved to Ames three years ago and since had lived in the home of her son, Leon E. Stevens, where she died.
Survivors include the son and two daughters, Mrs. Edith Metcalf, Viola, Iowa, and Mrs. Etta Rothrock, Richmond, Cal.; one sister, Mrs. Martha Harrison of Trenton, Neb., 17 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren.
