Last Rites for Benj. Johnson Held Saturday
Cambridge, Aug. 29 Funeral service for Benjamin Johnson, 66, who passed away at his apartment in Des Moines Saturday night Aug. 24, was held at the Hamilton funeral home in Des Moines Tuesday afternoon at three o'clock with Rev. H. E. Jacobson of Huxley in charge.
Two songs were sung "Lords Prayer" and "In The Garden." Beautiful floral offerings were contributed by relatives and friends also a number of gifts to missions. Burial was made in the Palestine cemetery where a host of relatives and friends had gathered to pay their last respect.
Benjamin Johnson was born Oct. 3, 1880 in Cambridge, Iowa, the son of John O. and Martha Johnson of Cambridge, was baptized and confirmed. He attended Cambridge high school after the death of his parents. The past 36 years he had been living in Des Moines with the exception of the past three years he spent in Chicago doing construction work and at different places. Being of a roaming disposition he saw a large part of this country. Last spring his health failed him an he returned to Des Moines.
When called for breakfast Sunday morning, 8 o'clock, he did not respond. When the door was opened to his room he was found dead on his bed. Upon investigation it was found death was due to heart failure.
He is survived by three brothers and one sister, Henry and Tilden of Des Moines, Oliver of Cambridge, Mrs. E. G. Nelson of Sheldahl and a host of relatives and friends.
