Last Rites for Orlie Reese Held At Zearing Tuesday
Funeral services for Orlie Reese were held on Tuesday afternoon Aug. 5, 1947 at the Evangelical United Brethren church in Zearing with the Reverend C. L. Fuller in charge.
The hymns were sung by the male quartet, Max McBride, Eldon Crain, Bill Adams, and Carroll Bailey accompanied by Mrs. Delos Dakins, pianist.
The flowers were cared for by Mrs. Ilo Beach and Mrs. Guy Clatterbuck.
The casket bearers were Don Moore, Bill McBride, Claude Easterday, I. S. Madison, Dick Reese and Guy Clatterbuck.
Orlie Garland, son of William A. and Elnora Reese, was born December 8, 1887 living he entire life with the exception of two years in this community. He lived one year in Shelby, Iowa and one in the Biven Grove neighborhood.
At the age of two years he contracted pneumonia which resulted in his physical handicap; however this did not prevent him from taking his place in the business affairs of the community. He spent several years conducting his own garage, was substitute mail carrier for a while and for the last few years has been in the shoe repair business.
He was kindly in disposition, thinking of others and gave of his kindness and care to his parents. Owing to his physical handicap he did not enter into the activities of the community.
He is survived by three sisters, Fern, Mrs. Glenn McBride, with whom he made his home; Arba, Mrs. Lee Moore of Zearing, Esther, Mrs. Molo Havens of San Diego, California, and one brother, Merlin O. Reese of Leads, South Dak.; also nieces and nephews. His parents and brothers, Dale, who died in infancy, and Wilton, who died two years ago, preceded him in death.
Those attending the services from a distance were Mrs. Milo Havens and son, James, of San Diego, Calif., Merlin O. Reese, Lead, South Dak., Mr. and Mrs. Warren Bryant of St. Anthony, Ia., Mr. and Mrs. Junior Myers of Eldora, Mrs. Emma McCord and Mrs. Betty Sorenson of Nevada, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Lightfoot and James McCord and Mrs. Ilo Beach of Ames, Mr. and Mrs. Carson Conway of Hubbard and Mr. and Mrs. Don Moore and daughter of Graettinger.
