Crash Injuries Fatal to McCord
County Home Steward Died This Morning
Earl A. McCord, 57, steward at the Story County Home and Hospital, who suffered a crushed chest and other injuries in a traffic accident seven miles south of Iowa Falls Wednesday night at 9 o'clock, passed away at the hospital in Iowa Falls at 3:15 this morning.
Mrs. McCord, who was injured in the same accident, but not seriously, was brought home by ambulance this afternoon.
Mr. and Mrs. McCord, who have been steward and matron at the County Home and Hospital since July 1, 1935, were on their way home from Hampton where they had gone after nursery stock, when their car was struck head-on by a passing motorist, Oscar Schmidt of Kissimmee, Florida, 83, who was on his way to Minnesota. Mr. Schmidt died Saturday in the Iowa Falls hospital of head injuries received in the same accident.
In addition to chest injuries, Mr. McCord suffered broken ribs, body bruises and other injuries. Mrs. McCord sustained lacerations about the face and broken ribs and suffered from body bruises and shock.
The death of Mrs. McCord, comes as a distinct shock to his many friends. Mr. McCord was gifted with a pleasant personality. His willingness to be of service to others made him many friends who will mourn his passing.

Earl A. McCord was born on the McCord homestead northwest of Collins, July 4, 1890, a son of Mr. and Mrs. A. S. McCord. Besides his wife, Emma Grove McCord, he is survived by three children, Harold McCord of Denison, Betty McCord Sorensen of Nevada and Jim McCord of Ames, all of whom remained at the bedside of the parents since being notified of the accident. He also leaves four grandchildren.
He is also survived by his mother, Mrs. A. S. McCord of Collins, and one brother Ralph McCord of Carroll.
The heartfelt sympathy of the entire community is extended at this time to Mrs. McCord and her fine family and to the aged mother and other relative in the loss they have suffered in the tragic passing of Mr. McCord.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. Wednesday afternoon at Memorial Lutheran church in Nevada with Rev. Ernest P. Windman officiating. Burial will be in the Nevada cemetery.
