Last Rites for Mrs. Nancy Jane Webb Held At Colo Last Wednesday

Colo, Jan. 14 -- Funeral services for Nancy Jane Webb were held Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 8, at 2 o'clock at the home of the deceased's son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Winifred Schultz, northeast of Colo. Services were in charge of the Rev. Noel Francisco of Zearing.

Music was provided by a male quartet composed of Charles Lehman, Paul Henry, Mark Wilson and John Lounsberry. The songs were "The Old Rugged Cross," "Rock of Ages" and "In the Land, Where We'll Never Grow Old."

The many flowers, a mute testimony of the high esteem held for Mrs. Webb, were cared for by Mrs. Carl Thompson and Mrs. Wm. Settle.

Casket bearers were her grandsons, Clayton, Donald, Earl and Clifford Webb and John McCollom. Interment was in Colo cemetery.

Born in Missouri

Nancy Jane Webb, daughter of W. H. and Mary Cowan, was born Jan 1, 1855, at Marshfield, Webster county, Mo., and departed this life Jan. 6, 1947 at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Winifred Schultz, at the age of 92 years and five days.

She was united in marriage to William I. Webb on Oct. 21, 1872, at St. Louis, Mo. To this union were born 12 children, 10 of whom survive. Two sons, William and James; her presents, a brother and two sisters preceded her in death.

The 10 surviving children are Charles and Minnie Stevens, Zearing; Dora McCollom, Herrville, Tex.; Lola Mains, Eunice McCollom, Blanche Schultz, Colo; Mary Smith, Cedar Rapids; Grace Crippen, Des Moines, and John and Clyde, Alta Vista, Iowa. There are 35 grandchildren and 43 great grandchildren living.

Lived in Illinois

The first 24 years of Mrs. Webb's life were spent on a farm near Sullivan, Ill. In 1896 she came with her husband and children to Iowa and settled on the farm where she passed away. For many years she and her husband were cared for by Mr. and Mrs. Schultz.

She was baptized into the Church of Christ near Sullivan, Ill., at the age of 18. After coming to Iowa, she had her membership transferred to the church at Zearing.

Mrs. Webb, or Grand Webb as she was better-known, was a woman of sterling character. She had the faith and steadfast spirit of the true pioneer whose watchword was "carry on." She met her many cares and difficulties bravely. Her true Christian living will always be felt by those whom she was ever ready and willing to minister. Her way of life will be a beautiful memory to her family and friends.

Webb and Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Webb, Alta Vista, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Heying, Iona, Iowa; Mrs. Ralph Miller, New Hampton; Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Webb, Betty and Donald, Iowa Falls; Mrs. R. V. Dawson and Mrs. John Alden, Marshalltown; Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Crippen and Helen, Mrs. James McLaughlin, Miss Edna Webb and Mrs. Harold Miller, Des Moines; Mr. and Mrs. Earl Webb and Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Webb, Nevada, and Mr. and Mrs. Will Heil of St. Anthony.
