Obituary of Neils Christianson

One of Story county's pioneers, one of the oldest, man in Story county, is dead. Neils Christianson was born in Copenhagen, Norway [should be Copenhagen, Denmark], April 11, 1826, and passed away at his home in McCallsburg July 5, 1921, at the ripe old age of 95 years, 2 months and 24 days. He was married in 1851 and they came to this country in 1873 and here continuously lived in Iowa most of the time in Story county, with the exception of a few years in Marshalltown and Buffalo Center. His wife died 27 years ago and her daughter Anna has made her home with her father and faithfully cared for him during his declining years. Mr. Christianson lived a good many years on his farm three miles south of town. Thy sold that and moved with his daughter to Buffalo Center for a few years, then he bought a property in town and moved back here. He leaves beside his daughter Anna, one granddaughter, Mrs. Elias Holland, of Buffalo Center, and four great grandchildren. He fought in the war between Denmark and Germany in 1848. Mr. Christianson has enjoyed very good health for one of his age but the past year he failed quite fast and the last eleven weeks he had been confined to his bed. The funeral services were held from the home Thursday p. m. Rev. R. H. Guthrie officiating. Music was furnished by a quartette composed of Mrs. Andy Thompson, Mrs. A. M. Finnie, A. G. Graves and Clarence Hanson. Cleo Tett, organist. Interment was made in the Warren township cemetery beside the wife who had passed away so long before. Those present at the funeral from out of town were Mrs. Elias Holland and children, of Buffalo Center; Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Rasmussen of Nevada. The daughter is extended the sympathy of the community in the loss of her father.
