STORY COUNTY PIONEER IS DEAD
MRS. WM. SHICKELL DIED AT HER HOME SOUTHEAST OF NEVADA
Mrs. William Shickell, 86, Story county pioneer, passed away Monday evening at 6:10 o'clock at her home 8 miles southeast of Nevada. Margaret Maria daughter of John and Julia Thomas was born near Delphi, Carroll county, Indiana, on April 4, 1847. She was the fifth of a family of 11 children. At the age of four years she came with her parents to Iowa in a covered wagon and settled near Des Moines. The following year they moved to Nevada, where she attended the public schools and later moved with her parents to a farm southeast of Nevada, where she grew to womanhood.
On March 18th, 1875 she was married to William A. Shickell and to this union 6 sons were born, one dying in infancy; Mrs. Shickell was converted when a young girl and united with the Presbyterian church of which she was an active worker as long as her health permitted.
July 9th she was stricken with paralysis of which she never recovered.
She was a kind and loving mother, always interested and anxious about the welfare of her children. She leaves to mourn her loss, five sons, Frederick Lee, Maxwell; Tighlman Hugh of Collins; Thomas Claude, Maxwell; Roy Erwin, at home; Floyd Sidney of Colo; two brothers, T. H. Thomas of Nevada, J. P. Thomas of Los Gatos, Calif.; 12 grand children and one great grand child.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday afternoon at 1:30 at the Presbyterian church, Nevada, Iowa. Interment in the family lot, Pleasant Run Cemetery in the Mullen neighborhood.
