Funeral Services Held On Saturday For Roy Shickell
Funeral services for Ray Erwin Shickell, who died at the Story County Hospital Wednesday, Oct. 3, were held from the Ryan Funeral Home Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock with the Rev Virgil Shickell of Ralston officiating assisted by the Rev. Donald Gruber of the Nevada E.U.B. church.
Rev. Gruber sang two songs "Beyond the Sunset" and "Have Thine Own Way Lord," accompanied at the organ by Miss Beeula Settle.
The casket bearers were Clifford Geister, Vern Noring, Lester Shickell, Marion Shickell, William Shickell and Thorman Streeter.
Burial was in the family lot in the Pleasant Run cemetery.
There were many beautiful flowers given by relatives and friends and a memorial was given by the neighbors of the community in which he lived.
Obituary
Roy Erwin Shickell, son of William and Margaret Shickell, was born near McCallsburg, October 9, 1885 and died Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m. at the Story County Hospital following a stroke three weeks ago. Had he lived until October 9, he would have been 71 years of age.
He moved with his parents to the Dalton neighborhood when a small boy. When just a young child, he was stricken with paralysis and was partially paralyzed the remainder of his life.
He leaves to mourn his death three brothers, Frederick Lee Shickell, Nevada; Tighlman Hugh Shickell of Collins and Floyd Sidney Shickell of Nevada and several nephews and nieces and many friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Shickell, Sr., William Shickell, Jr. and Thomas Claude Shickell who died in 1955.
