Last Rites Held Monday In Collins For Claude Shickell

Funeral services for Thomas Claude Shickell were held from the home at 1:15 p. m. with a short prayer service and at Collins E.U.B. church at 2 o'clock with Rev. Ray Thompson of Des Moines officiating, assisted by Rev. G. H. Talbott of the E.U.B. church at Collins and Rev. Virgil Shickell of Ralston. The many beautiful floral offerings and memorials were cared for by Mrs. Wm. Cochran, Mrs. Verne Noring, Mrs. Milton Hale, Mrs. Clifford Geister. The church was filled with sorrowing relatives and friends.

Mrs. Margaret Struthers and Milton Hale sang "I Will Sing of My Redeemer," "The Upper Garden" and "Have Thine Own Way" accompanied by Donna Ose.

The casket bearers were: Forrest Brouhard, Everett McCord, Stuart McCord, Fred Shickell, Lloyd Shickell and Marion Shickell.

Honorary casket bearers: Nelson Moses, Flavius Pritchard, Bradford Stevens, Joe Tiffany. Burial was in the Collins cemetery.

Obituary

Claude, son of Wm. and Margaret Shickell, was born near McCallsburg, Ia., on January 18, 1884 and passed from this earthly life on Friday, Aug. 26, 1955. Aged 71 yrs., 7 mos. and 8 days.

He moved with his parents to the Dalton community southwest of Colo in 1895 at age of 11. That community was his home until his death.

Claude was converted when a young lad and united with the Presbyterian church near his parents home. This church later closed and he transferred his membership to the Dalton United Brethren church, later this congregation worshipped with another in Collins and he held his membership in the Collins Evangelical United Brethren at time of death.

He was united in marriage to Olive McCord at her parents home northwest of Collins on Nov. 25, 1908. They had lived together more than 46 years.

Claude was one of six brothers. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother William Jr. He is mourned in his passing by his wife Olive Shickell, four brothers, Lee who lives next door to him, Tim of Collins, Roy who has made his home with Claude and Ollie since his mother's death in 1933 and Sidney; several nephews and nieces, a host of friends and neighbors.

Claude had been in failing health for quite some time, but seemed to improve greatly in the last few months. He was stricken with a cerebral hemorrhage Friday afternoon and passed away at the Story County hospital.

He served as trustee, S. S. supt., church treasurer and steward at various times.
