TWO CREMATED AS FARM HOME BURNS
WORDS OF SAD TRAGEDY REACHED STORY COUNTY HOMES TODAY
Two Story county homes were shocked by deep tragedy today when delayed word reached here of the tragic death of Mrs. Alice Whitaker, 17, burned to death in a home near Evansille, Minn. Saturday morning.
Tad Henry, son of the illfated woman, his wife, two small children and a brother Billy Henry, escaped from the second story of the flaming home in their night clothing.
The farm house, together with all of its contents was consumed by fire and for some time searchers were unable to find any trace of the bodies of the two victims.
Mrs. Henry Sr., who lost her life in the tragedy was a sister of Mrs. W. R. Mathews of south of Nevada and Glen Whitaker was a grandson of Grant Whitaker, farmer of south of this place.
Mrs. Henry was a former Iowa Center girl, her maiden name being Alice Pizer. She was married to James Henry March 7, 1887 and they lived for a number of years around Iowa Center and Maxwell before going to Minnesota to locate.
The grandson who lost his life with her in the tragedy is a grandson of Grant Whitaker of south of town and had lived all of his life with the grandmother.
At the time word was sent this newspaper from the scene of the tragedy no trace had been found of the bodies and memorial services without the bodies were being planned.
