H. A. Prescott Died at Home In Roland Thursday Night

Special to Journal:
Roland, Sept. 20--Helga A. Prescott, 89, long time resident of this community, died at his home here Thursday night at 11L00 o'clock.

The funeral will be held Sunday with a prayer service at the home at 1:30, followed by the service at the church at 2:00, in charge of his pastor, Rev. Olaf Holen Interment will be in Zion cemetery in Hardin county.

Mr. Prescott was born at Hardanger, Norway, Europe, and came to America when a boy of 18 years. He was married to Randia Larson April 24, 1879 and they at once operated a farm north of Roland where they lived for over 40 years. Sixteen years ago they retired and moved to Roland and this has since been their home.

He leaves besides his wife and several children, one sister. The children are Joseph Prescott of ---an, Minn., Mrs. J. A. Knudson and Mrs. Lloyd Erickson of Ames, Mrs. G. N. Hatteberg and Mrs. Ray Charleson of Radcliffe, Mrs. Martin Valem of Garden City, Mrs. E. J. Briton of McCallsburg and Mrs. E. J. Nelson of Goddell.

Funeral Services for Roland Pioneer

Special to the Journal.
Roland, Sept. 28--Funeral services held Sunday afternoon at Salem church for H. J. Prescott, pioneer citizen of Roland, was largely attended, the church being filled to its capacity with friends and relatives, who came to pay their last respects to the deceased.

There were many floral offerings and other tributes were presented in the form of money to be given to missions.

Ref. Olaf Holen officiated at the services at the home and church and William Hodenfield of Radcliffe also spoke.

The pallbearers were Randall Hatteberg, William Hodnefield, Alval Stole, Henry Nelson, M. M. Grove and J. J. Hill.

Music for the funeral consisted of duets by Mr. and Mrs. O. S. Boyd and William Hodnefield and Randall Hatteberg.

Mr. Prescott who was past 86 years, died Friday from complications incidental to old age. He leaves to mourn his departure his wife and eight children. Three children preceeded him in death, a son in infancy and two daughters Louise in the fall of 1917, and Nora in the summer of 1924.

Those from a distance who attended the funeral were Mrs. Guro Iverson, Iver and Clarence Iverson of Jewell, Goldie Iverson of Chicago, Mrs. Houghton and daughter Lillie, Marshalltown, Mr. and Mrs. P. J. Peterson of Badger, Mr. and Mrs. E. Swanson of Clear Lake, Mr. and Mrs. Eli Espe, and daughter, Winifred, Georgia Espe, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Thompson of Radcliffe, Mr. and Mrs. Ole Birkeland and daughter Hilda and Goldie of Bricelyn, Minn., Elling Birkeland and sons, Arthur and Elmer of Moorland, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Thompson and family of Elmore, Minn., Lewis Prestegaard and son and Mr. and Mrs. Jake Prestegaard of Lee, Illinois.
