Funeral Services for Mrs. Mabel Scalf

Special to the Journal.
Slater, Sept. 3--Funeral services for Mrs. Mabel Scalf were held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Church of the Open Bible in Des Moines. The services were in charge of her pastor, Rev. John Ritchie who paid a beautiful tribute to the memory of Mrs. Scalf.

Six men, members of the church orchestra acted as pallbearers and six ladies, members of the church choir, acted as honorary pallbearers. The Nelson sisters, vocalists, sang a beautiful duet. Mr. Paterson, director of the church choir sang "Cast Thy Bread Upon the Waters" a favorite hymn of the deceased and which she had requested to be sung at her funeral.

The floral offerings were profuse and beautiful. Mabel Thorson was born in Morris, Illinois, July 12th, 1887, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Thorson and died August 27, 1935 at the Iowa Lutherans hospital in Des Moines, at the age of 48 years, 1 month and 15 days.

She had been failing in health the past several years Her passing while a sad event, was not entirely unexpected. She made her home in Des Moines.

She is mourned by six children, three sons and three daughters, Martis, Vernon and Kenneth, Erbelle, Marie and Beverly, all of Des Moines.

Interment was made in the Bethlehem cemetery at Slater beside her mother, father and two brothers who preceded her in death. A number of people from Slater and vicinity, in which community Mrs. Scalf grew to womanhood, were at the cemetery for this service.
