FUNERAL ACCIDENT VICTIM THURSDAY
BURIAL IN NEVADA AFTER SERVICE AT FUNERAL HOME AT 10:00
Funeral services for Miss Margaret Alice Barber, 50, killed instantly when struck by a Rock Island engine on the Eighth street crossing in Nevada, Tuesday afternoon at 2:50, will be held the Morfoot Funeral Home Thursday morning at 10:00, with Elder Miller in charge. Burial will be in the Nevada cemetery.
Miss Barber who had come here from Hollandale, Minn., about two weeks ago, met instant death when struck by the engine of a southbound freight, as she walked in front of the oncoming train. Enginmen said she appeared to notice the oncoming train just as it was almost upon her and made an ineffectual effort to hurry across the tracks.
The train stopped within three car lengths of the accident.
Coroner Mills was notified by Sheriff Hattery, who was called, and took charge of the case, but after checking up on the accident, decided that a formal inquest was unnecessary.
Miss Barber, who came here from Hollandale, had been in a somewhat "depressed condition," according to word at the sanitarium, and was staying at the institution, working part time in payment of her treatments.
She has a sister, Mrs. George Robinson of Lacona, Iowa and other relatives in Kansas.
According to the sister, who arrived her today, she was a native of Tripoli, Ill. where she was born November 27, 1885.
