Pioneer Cambridge Woman Is Dead
Special to the Journal.
Cambridge, Dec. 17--Mrs. Alice McKee, 72, who has resided in in Cambridge at intervals during the greater part of her life died at Valley Junction Saturday, December 11th, at the age of nearly seventy-two years. The body was brought to the home of her daughter, Mrs. Sam Bates, at this place and funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the local Lutheran church. Her pastor, Rev. Elliott of Valley Junction, assisted by Rev. Peter Buland of the Lutheran church had charge of the services. Mrs. McKee who has been suffering the past few years from stomach trouble which finally developed into cancer, was cared for in Valley Junction the past six months. Mrs. McKee was the mother of eight children all of whom were in attendance at the funeral with the exception of the two youngest twin daughters. Those present were Howard Ersland,, Story City; Andrew Ersland, Des Moines; Mrs. Martin Haukoos, McCallsburg; Mrs. Sylvia Sutton, Maxwell; Jane Bates, Cambridge. Besides her children she leaves one brother, Henry Johnson of this place. Twedt brothers relatives of her first husband were down from Roland in attendance at the funeral. Interment in the local cemetery.Alice Serena Johnson aka Alice Sarah Johnson married four known times: (1) to Severt S. Ersland ca. 1879, (2) to Hiram Elliot on 20 March 1889 in Cambridge, Story County, Iowa, (3) to James Russell on 10 May 1898 in Cambridge, Story County, Iowa and (4) to Reese Sherry McKee between 1898 and 1913.
